7th Grade 2014 - 2015 Activity Periods

The 7th grade uses the two daily activity periods (Periods 1 & 2) in a variety of ways.

  1. We group students based on academic need and assign them to an academic skills group. Our 7th grade students are assigned a Math skills group and an ELA (English & Language Arts) skills group. Each group meets for a double period on Tuesdays and Fridays. The double period allows the students time to engage in deep learning tailored to their individual academic needs; be it remediation, reinforcement, or enrichment.
  2. Two periods a week the 7th grade students participate in a club. The students have the option of enrolling in one of these clubs: Spirit, Games, Envirothon, Fantasy Sports, Intrammurals, Newspaper, Book, and Music. These activities are meant to enhance the students’ educational experience, allow students to explore growing interests, and allow educators to mentor and build relationships with students.

  3. Two additional periods each week are designated for Study Island, Make-Up Work and/or Tutoring. Study Island is a progress monitoring tool that allows educators to see where students have mastered skills and where further learning is needed. Additionally, these periods allow students time to make-up missing work, complete labs, finish group projects and see teachers for help.

  4. Finally, students from both 7th grade teams meet together on Wednesday mornings to compete in team challenges. These challenges range from games in the homerooms (Are You Smarter than a 5th-Grader, Jenga, Taboo, Oh No it’s 99, Math 24) to challenges in the gymnasium. Students who have late or missing work may be asked to work on incomplete assignments or assessments at this time.
