Central Valley High School Receives National Recognition from Special Olympics
On December 19th, a banner raising ceremony was held at Central Valley High School where the school was awarded a National Unified Championship School banner from Special Olympics. Central Valley is one of ninety schools in the country to be recognized nationally as a Unified Champion School and the first in Western Pennsylvania to receive this honor.

The banner is now proudly hanging in the high school gym as a symbol of the school’s culture which embraces an environment where students with intellectual disabilities are included with their typical peers. Highlighted as part of this recognition is the unified sports and unified student programs which promote inclusive activities partnering regular education students and special education students with disabilities.

CVHS unified sports programs are facilitated by Athletic Director, Sam Cercone, and coached by Jason DiBenedetto, Megan Kryzwick, and Teneille Antonelli with approximately 45 students participating. Unified student programs are led by Jennifer Lupinacci with over 100 students participating. In addition, there are many teachers and support staff who volunteer their time and resources to ensure the success of these programs. This is another national recognition for our district to add to the Don Eichhorn School To Watch 2015-2018 and 2018-2021 and Best Communities for Music Education 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018. Congratulations to all!
