Central Valley School District to Resume Education via Distance Learning Beginning April 1, 2020

March 25, 2020

Good afternoon,

I hope that this correspondence finds you and your family well.  Social distancing and the daily restrictions that continue to be placed on everyday life have certainly been a challenge for all Americans.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all of our families as you deal with the obstacles that this virus has presented be they physical, emotional or financial.  As a District, our focus has been to feed our students who require economic assistance, maintain facilities and prepare for distance education during this shutdown.  I realize that everyone is anxious to return to some sort of normalcy, and we at Central Valley are no different.

Starting on April 1, 2020, the Central Valley School District will resume education online.  Staff will attend virtual training on March 30 and March 31, 2020, in order to finalize plans for instruction to begin on April 1 and through the April 13, 2020 closure.  We appreciate your patience as we worked through the logistics of providing equal access for all students, labor agreements, and the challenge of planning through the social distancing restrictions directed by Governor Wolf.

Prior to April 1, 2020, you will receive communication from your child’s building principal with specifics for what education will look like from their specific building.  We understand that distance education will present a challenge for students, parents, and staff.  We are committed to working through any issues that present themselves as we move to this new instructional delivery system.  Administrators and teachers will work with students and parents to overcome these challenges.  We realize that the home dynamic is different for everyone, we will make every effort to be flexible during this closure for both students and staff.

Specific questions regarding things such as internet access for those who do not have it in the home, technology support, teacher schedules, expectations, grading of assignments, special education supports and services, end of 9 weeks grading periods, school calendar, scheduled school activities, College In High School Courses, AP testing, senior projects, Keystone Project Based Assessment, Commencement etc…will be addressed next week where possible and as we move forward should the closure continue beyond April 13, 2020.

Students who attend the CTC will be contacted by the CTC with specific information regarding educational programming moving forward.  The CTC plans to resume instruction on March 30, 2020.  All current CTC students should contact their instructor via email. Email addresses are on the website www.bcctc.org.  All other students who attend out of district schools should be contacted by their school with specifics on how they intend to move forward with education.  Should you have specific questions about the CTC or other outside institutions, please contact them directly.

Once again, on behalf of the Central Valley Board of Education, Administration and Staff thank you for your patience and best of health to you and your family.
