January 7, 2022

**There will be no Saturday School/Detention this weekend due to Friday’s storm.

***Today’s athletic competitions are postponed due to weather.  They will be rescheduled for a later date.

**Also, Mr. Conley’s tutoring sessions on Saturday are postponed until next week due to Mr. Conley being unavailable this weekend.

Val Nelson and I presented the 22-23 CHS Program of Studies to the Board last week.  It will be approved in several weeks, and this is the first signpost to begin the master scheduling, and that students will begin choosing courses in early February for next year.  Please make sure you are having ongoing conversations about this process to make sure the best options are selected by students, both for primary courses but also for alternate selections.  This process is critical to ensure the best possible schedule for 22-23!  We do have another week of mask requirements coming up next week.  While I admit to wearing my mask nearly all of my time in the building, I also admit frustrates me as well, particularly when I wear my glasses.  But we really appreciate the students working with us and the teachers on this.  As we have been saying, our primary goal is to keep staff and students safe.  Our Annual “Art at Night” at CHS is being held in the CHS Learning Commons from 6:00pm - 7:30pm on Thursday.   We would love to have you join us to observe our fine student artwork.  And remember that masks are required in the building if you do come to the event.  (We will have spares if you happen to leave yours behind.)  One final thought, we have the upcoming Deliberative Session for the budget coming up on Saturday, February 5.  Mark that in your calendar, as we would love your involvement and participation in this process.  Have a great weekend!    Bill Lonergan, CHS Principal

From the Superintendent:

COVID Planning ~ As most people know through media reports, the CDC and NH-DHHS have recently adopted new COVID protocols related to isolation and vaccines.  These protocols are quite nuanced, and we have not yet received an updated School Toolkit on how to apply these updates in the educational setting.  Therefore, we continue to operate under the protocols we have been following this fall.

Once the School Toolkit is released and we better understand the new protocols, we will update our local plan accordingly.  Please remember, we are short nursing staff and doing our best to protect the health and safety of our students, families and staff.  We want to make the right changes in a clear and consistent manner.

Please consult our COVID Resource Page for the most up to date details.

School Budget ~ The School Board has prepared a very responsible and lean budget for next year ('22-23), and the budget committee will be holding a hearing on Thursday, January 13th at 7:00 PM at Campbell High School.  Please attend this meeting to learn about our operating budget, contracts for our teachers, professionals and support staff, our renovation project at LMS and our plans for ReImagining GMS.

We also need community involvement on Saturday, February 5th (10:00 AM at Campbell HS) when the budget and warrant are deliberated and finalized by the public.  Voting will take place on Tuesday, March 8th (7:00 - 7:00) at Campbell HS.

Text Messaging - With recent events and winter weather, we are relying more on texts for quick communication with our families.  To receive text messages from our schools, text Y or Yes to 67587.

Be well, Mike Jette, Superintendent of Schools

Appreciation & Recognition from the Administration

  • Emily West and Emma Bertrand presented at Wednesday’s  Board Meeting on Student Council events in December.  As the CHS student representatives to the Litchfield School Board, Emily and Emma are models of leadership and collaboration between the Board and the CHS students.  It was great to see the efforts of StuCo to keep CHS holiday traditions alive in 2021!  Thanks to Emily and Emma and the Council for all your good work!

  • The following students will be presenting their artwork at the CHS Art at Night Event on Thursday of next week:  Ashley Povilaites, Emily Povilaites, Cody Cayer, Laura Harrison, Kendra Scurto, and Meredith Spotts.  We look forward to seeing their work in the Learning Commons on Thursday starting at 6:00pm.

  • I mentioned our Alumni Panel in my last update, but I do want to recognize the Alumni who came to speak to our juniors and seniors.  It was nice having them in the building before break and continuing their ties to CHS.  They included Tori Allen, Abby Buxton, Caro McSorley, Andrew Durfee, Liv Mastarlerz, Jake Taylor, Emily Cooper, Ethan Burns, Hannah Neild, Niki Monoxelos, Abi Gray, Roberto Landreau, Jaylen Owen, Noah Benoit, Sabrina Noury, and Cam Norton.  Thanks to all of them for giving back to us at CHS!

  • We want to give a SHOUT OUT to four Litchfield residents who graduated from Londonderry Night School this week.  Nice job to Matt Blanchette, Scott Merrifield, Mike Parenteau, and Colby Taylor.  Also, a HUGE thanks to staff members Cathy Snyder, Jill Anderson, Jeff Parsons and Bill Hicks for supporting our students at the Londonderry High School Adult Education Graduation on Tuesday evening!! It was such a special event and it was awesome for our graduates to see familiar faces sharing in their success.

  • We want to welcome two new additions to the CHS staff.  Amanda Soucy joins us in the main office as the principal’s administrative assistant and CHS bookkeeper.  Diane Francoeur also is joining us as a long term substitute in the music department.  Diane was for many years the band director and music teacher at Manchester West, and we are happy to welcome both of them to CHS.
