Recently, Springboro Junior High School (SJHS) Counselor Mary McConnell organized a group of students and staff to sing Christmas carols at Arlington Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation. Residents from the Middletown nursing home were treated to a chorus of Christmas carols, as they watched on from the windows in their rooms.
The group of carolers consisted of more than fifty (50) people, as both SJHS students and staff brought along their own family members to be a part of this special day. Nikki Roberts, a nurse at Arlington Pointe said, “Many of the residents were so overcome with emotion that they cried tears of joy as they sang along with the students. They absolutely loved this.”
This was the fifth (5th) year Mary McConnell has brought together SJHS students and staff to sing at Arlington Pointe, and the twenty-fifth (25th) year singing at nursing homes within the area. “In the past, we've also done visits throughout the year with the residents where we would sing and do crafts with them. We are hoping to do that again down the road, once they're permitted to have visitors again,” said Mary McConnell.
A special thank you to Becky Coffee and Shelley Eckman who had their study hall students volunteer to make one hundred (100) Christmas cards and color signs for the residents to hang in their rooms.
