Crusader Basketball - 2/6/2020

The SJA 4^th Grade Boys Team, led by Coach Gleine, entered the Holy Family Basketball Tournament. SJA took on St. Anthony and came out on top with a score of 34-9. All of our ballers assisted in this win! This team will also be participating in the St. Barnabas Post-Season Basketball Tournament beginning February 15^th.normal;background:white'>

3^rd Grade Boys Basketball Update

As a fun closing to the St. Gabriel Grizzly Classic Basketball Tournament, the organizers put together an All-Star Game.  Coaches from all of the participating teams voted for players on the opposing teams and the points were tallied.  Benjamin Holmes, Colin Fitzmaurice and CJ Gunerra were voted SJA Third Grade All-Stars.  They participated on a team with other CYO players coming out victorious. This was an amazing experience with a hope that all of these boys will be friends off the courts in the future!  Congrats to our All-Stars!

Playoff Tournament Results:

*SJA 7th Grade Boys (7BBG), coached by Gildone, won their game against St. Vincent de Paul-Akron and had a significant lead most of the game. The score was 38-28. In the second round of The Playoff Tournament, 7BBG took on St. Francis of Assisi and came out on top with a score of 42-31.  In the third round, 7BBG will tak eon Immaculate Heart of Mary at Hoban High School on 2/16/20 at 1:00 p.m.

 *SJA 7th Grade Boys (7BBL), coached by Lowe, won their first tournament game with a significant lead throughout, 36-17 against Seton Catholic School. These boys actually couldn’t press past the 1st quarter because of the lead and still earned a high total! Best of luck as they take on St. Michael at Gesu on 2/15/20 at 2:00 p.m.

 *SJA 6^th Grade Boys (6BB) won their first playoff game due to forfeit.  The opponent only had 4 players. This turned into a positive as the teams got to scrimmage and both teams had fun. They took on Holy Name on 2/9/2020 but came up short with a score of 4-19. 

 *SJA 8^th Grade Boys (8BB), are playing in the Tier II CYO Playoffs. The 8th Grade Boys jumped out to a 9- point first quarter lead and carried that to a 52-45 victory over St. Ambrose. Holden Kajfasz (18), Jack Alexander (14) and Charlie Robinson (7) lead the scoring while the front court of Gavin Mayes, Connor Romanini, Colm Matheney and Clay Bittner pulled down 21 rebounds. They will move onto the next round playing St. Francis-Cleveland at Villa Angela St. Joseph on 2/16/20 at 2:00 p.m.

 *SJA 7^th Grade Girls (7GB), lost to Metro Catholic in a tough battle at Beaumont School on 2/9/20.

 *SJA 8^th Grade Girls (8GB), lost in a hard match up against Immaculate Heart of Mary with a score of 16-28.

PRACTICES may begin after February 21^st

SEASON is March 21^st thru May 24^th

REGISTRATION FEE:

TRACK & FIELD is $90.00 per athlete

BASEBALL is $125.00 per athlete

Once an athlete is registered, an invoice will be sent via email.

Crusader Basketball - Holiday Edition

The 8th Grade Boys were busy over the holidays going 5-1 during the break.

 12/22/19 vs. St. Dominic - A three point half-time deficit was turned into a 16 point win (38-22) over St. Dominic as the boys frustrated their opponent with a half-court trap, forced 15 steals and every player on the team scored.

12/23/19 vs. St. Francis – The team opened the Corpus Christi Christmas Tournament with a resounding 38-15 win as Jack Alexander (10) and Leo Fonash (5) led the scoring.

1/2/20 vs Gesu – Game two in the tournament was a 35-24 victory fueled by Jack Alexander’s 17 points.

1/4/20 vs Gesu – A second Gesu team fell to SJA two days later as SJA hit six three pointers. Jack Alexander (12), Holden Kajfasz (11) and Camden Vogely (10) scored in double digits and Connor Romanini pulled down 10 rebounds.

1/5/20- vs St. Mary of the Assumption – SJA ran into a scoring blitz and fell 38-60. Charlie Robinson, Connor Romanini and Gavin Mayes pulled down 19 rebounds but the boys couldn’t hold off St Mary’s long distance shooting.

1/6/20 – vs St. Paschal of Baylon – SJA moved on to the semi-final game in the tournament by beating St. Paschal 35-13.

Crusader Basketball - Week of 12/15/19

The 8th Grade Boys hit a team record with six 3-pointers and overwhelmed Gesu 51-21. Leading scorers were Jack Alexander (10 points), Camden Vogely (8 points) Connor Romanini (8 points), Holden Kajfasz (8 points) and Colm Matheney (6 points).

On Sunday, the 6th grade Boys Team faced a tough St. Rita’s squad on our home court.  Our team was down a few players and the boys kept it close in the first half.  Despite playing immensely hard, the game got away in the second half and we lost 32-8.  Points were contributed by Ralph Asher, Christian Bittner, Jimmy Geralis and Max Stefano.  The boys have also entered the St. Francis Tournament and will play their first game on 12/21 at 2pm.

Pat Sheehan’s 12th Grade Boys took on St. Paschal Baylon in an exciting game.  It was a great team effort and each player put up points!
