On September 27th to Raccoon Creek State Park for Mr. Whipkey's AP Environmental Science class, challenged students to collect water samples from Raccoon Creek State Park lake and to conduct water quality tests back in the classroom lab.

Students tested the water in the lake and in the feeder streams for microorganisms, pH, turbidity, Electrical Conductance, Total Dissolved Solids, temperature and visibility. Back in the laboratory, the students confirmed all of their field measurements, as well as, tested the water for the presence of microbial contaminants including Escherichia coli (E. coli)

In cooperation with the Raccoon Creek State Park personal, Central Valley students were asked to also remove trash and debris from the waterway as a service to the community. In exchange, the students were treated to a great day in their canoes on the lake and to seeing several birds of prey, including a roosting bald eagle.
