Course Information

Math 7Seventh grade math will focus on four critical areas of the common core standards: developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

Pre-Algebra  - The study of Pre-Algebra will include developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships, developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations, solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume. We also cover drawing inferences about populations based on samples. In addition, this course will prepare students to take Algebra 1 in eighth grade by investigating linear functions, slope, writing equations for lines, polynomials and the Pythagorean Theorem.

Study Island is a web-based program utilized to reinforce math content covered in class and to prepare for the PSSA test.  Students will be required to complete Study Island topics during each nine weeks grading period.  Students may work on Study Island assignments at home or during the activity periods.  Some class time will also be given. Each assignment is worth 10 points. Students will be graded based on their percent correct and work shown for each assignment.

10/10      Student earns a blue ribbon and shows all work in the notebook.
8/10         Student does not earn a blue ribbon, but shows all work in the notebook.
7/10         Student turns in the assignment late, but has sufficient work in the notebook.
5/10         Student shows insufficient work OR student turns in assignment > 1 week late.
0/10         Student fails to complete a minimum of 10 questions.

*Assignments may be redone for grade improvement provided the original assignment was completed on time.  All replacement sessions must contain a minimum of 10 questions.
